THE GREAT HIMALAYAN PART GETS WORLD HERITAGE STATUS

Payson gone for a hike into the park with Sanjeev to say a prayer of thanks for the park getting World Heritage Site status. Yes! Their efforts have paid off and they have preserved for posterity a large chunk of Mother Earth!

  1. Played a key role in organizing small group of Indian and foreign volunteers, over a five-year period, the World Heritage Site process, including contributing to the complex technical application (240 pages), the Referral response (2013), mobilizing all-India, local community and international support; writing articles; publicity, etc. An amazing effort and success considering that all-volunteer with very limited resources! A portion of the Western Himalayas has now been recognized by the world community as a unique ecosystem protecting very important biodiversity. A gift for Himachal Pradesh, India, and the world. As Laj Bedi, my mother-in-law said: "Someone has to speak for the plants and animals who can't...."
